Mother Earth on the Edge
Mother Earth on the Edge
foil, sand, oil on canvas
30 x 40

This slice may represent to the viewer a slice of almost anything, from food to the geology of the ancient Arbuckle Mountains, to a small slice of remembered past watching a ten-year-old grandson play "T-Ball."The materials include burlap, aluminum foil, and pearl-like shards. The inspiration is artist Alberto Burri, who resisted traditional methodology and chose to experiment with new materials.

Measuring Up

I smile as he steps to the plate,
born for this moment of battle,
his grip tight, his stance set,
this is his summer world.
The search for a test of life,
for a way of measuring up,
ends here tonight, on Field # 17,
for a ten-year-old known as Nate.
